Syedna Abdul Qadir Najmuddin(RA) – 47th Dai ul Mutlaq
June 20, 2011
Birth: 1st Ramadan 1229
Wafat: 26th Rajab ul Asab
Syedna Abdul Qadir Najmuddin (RA), the 47th Dai, was born on the 1st of Ramadan in the year 1229 H. His father had named him ‘Yusuf‘; Syedna Abdeali Saifuddin (RA) renamed him ‘Abdulqadir‘. He was tutored by the illustrious personage of Syedna Abdeali Saifuddin (RA) in the company of Syedna Mohammed Badruddin (RA). They were equal in virtue and stature, Syedna Najmuddin (RA) and Syedna Badruddin (RA), the Duat of Rasulullah (SA) and Amir ul Mumineen (SA).
Syedna Najmuddin (RA) was 27 years of age when he became Dai al Mutlaq. During the 47 years of his reign, dissenters rose and grew perilously in power. Syedna (RA), keeping patience, demonstrated that he was the Dai of Amir ul Mumineen (AS), who had sheathed his sword and endured the long-suffering after the death of Rasulullah (SA) for the sake of Islam. Syedna was once asked by his son, “Until when will you endure these trials?” Syedna answered, “The fifth Dai after me will resolve all trials.” The victories of Syedna Taher Saifuddin (RA) were thus foretold.
During this time, a Shia poet wrote a heart-rending marsiya of Amir ul Mumineen (AS). When it was delivered in a mehfil, the Shia gathering was moved to tears and ma’tam. The poet had never seen or heard of Syedna Abdulqadir Najmuddin (RA). In his dream, Amir ul Mumineen (AS) appeared in the image of Syedna (RA). The poet fell to his knees and asked Amir ul Mumineen (AS) if he had accepted the marsiya and was pleased by it. Amir ul Mumineen (AS) replied: “No! I shall accept your marsiya only after our Dai Najmuddin has acknowledged it.” The poet was thus lead to Syedna (RA) by Amir ul Mumineen (AS).
An epidemic swept through Ujjain in the year 1302 H., Syedna (RA) was taken ill, and decided to leave Ujjain. When mumineen learned of his plans they urged their Dai to stay back until he had recovered and they had celebrated the return of his health. Syedna (RA) sat down instantly saying, “I shall remain here forever.” He performed nass on Syedna Abdul-Husain Husamuddin (RA) who was not present in Ujjain. He directed a will to Syedna Husamuddin. “Tell my brother Husamuddin that I have weaned the children of dawat with great care and affection. When they asked for water, I gave them milk. My brother, do the same.” Syedna Najmuddin (RA) passed away at the age of 73.
